CSMM wins „ICONIC AWARDS: Innovative Interior“ for sculptural reception counter

Munich, 04 April 2023 – The planning and consulting company CSMM has once again proved the versatility of its expertise: Its reception counter design for Bayern Projekt GmbH’s new Bavaria Tower headquarters in Munich-Bogenhausen was awarded an ICONIC AWARD: Innovative Interior. The sculptural design made of mineral composite is reminiscent of a "meteor" in form and color, and emphasizes the client's claim to sustainability. As a central design element, the counter also convinced the jury of the ICONIC AWARDS: Innovative Interior, which annually identifies the most extraordinary projects and products from the interior sector on behalf of the German Design Council.

With its form and materiality, the 2.30 by 1.50 meter counter embodies the project nucleus and creates a space-defining statement in the Bayern Projekt GmbH’s headquarters’ reception area. "Within the working environment we created here, we designed a highly individualized piece of furniture that combines both the special architecture of the building and the identity of the brand," says Malte Tschörtner, managing partner of CSMM, to explain the product design. Since their completion in 2020, the Bavaria Towers, which were developed by Bayern Projekt GmbH, have been among the most spectacular construction projects in Munich. Locating the company headquarters in the project developer’s own building marks the keystone of the entire high-rise development. "Our aim was to continue the striking architectural language of the Bavaria Towers inside the building by mirroring the footprint of the towers with their iconic curves." The architecture of the four skyskrapers is repeated throughout the building interiors in various ways, and viewers are presented with different visual relationships depending on their location. Similarly, the body of the reception desk is uniform and yet multi-layered. "Like a meteor in airy heights, it symbolizes our client’s visionary power. We wanted to create a real interior design statement that pays tribute to the brand's identity," Tschörtner continues. The team used high-quality materials and surface structures to create an elegant and timeless design piece. Its refined and sculptural yet restrained design language draws attention to the solid and seamless surface material which creates the impression of a monolithic body, and whose distinctive grain - free of breaks and bumps - characterizes the entire design piece.  The counter forms the center of the entire entrée, from which hallways lead to 500 square meters of office area and the company’s marketing lounge. Generous windoes grant spectacular views and allow visitors and employees to experience the architectural and spatial unit that the interior and exterior of the building represent as part of a larger ensemble.
