International law firm Addleshaw Goddard LLP tasked us with the design and fit-out of their new offices on the Alter Wall canal in Hamburg’s city centre. Our design for the firm’s first branch in Germany meant that the partners, who had previously been working out of a co-working space, would finally have a prestigious office of their own. The team designed an agile office landscape that marries the Anglo-Saxon way of working and its more open layouts with the rather conversative workplace culture and private cellular offices prevailing in German law firms. The result is a combination of one and two-person offices with open-space zones that each have their own distinctive design language, honouring the office culture of both countries and providing a variety of flexible options to optimise collaborative workflows. Our team worked very closely with the office staff to develop the distinctive colour and material palette in a workshop focused on visual character and materiality.
