CSMM Wins 3rd Prize in the Behrens-Ufer Berlin Competition
We’re delighted to announce that our design, Memories of the Future, has been awarded 3rd prize in the Behrens-Ufer Berlin invitational competition! Congratulations to our team on this fantastic achievement!
Architectural Vision
Our design for the hotel at Behrens-Ufer introduces a striking architectural landmark in this emerging urban quarter. Its innovative design offers breathtaking 360° views of the neighborhood and the Spree River. The building’s distinctive form—with no defined front or back—and the sculptural elements of its base structure create a dynamic architectural presence. It establishes a dialogue with the iconic Behrens Tower while helping define the skyline of the new district.
Design and Functionality
The hotel is designed to seamlessly integrate public and private spaces. The ground floor features the entrance hall, lobby, a hotel bar, and retail areas. The second floor includes a gallery level with a signature restaurant and a spacious terrace overlooking the Spree. The tower’s hotel rooms are accessed via a central core, while special amenities such as fitness facilities, a library, and a rooftop restaurant elevate the guest experience. Green roofs and integrated photovoltaic panels add both aesthetic and functional value.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is the cornerstone of our design. The building meets EU Taxonomy ESG standards and exceeds Germany’s nearly zero-energy building (nZEB) requirements by at least 10%. Designed to DGNB criteria, it is targeting Platinum certification. By embracing circular economy principles, using recyclable materials, and implementing a highly efficient building envelope, we significantly reduce CO2 emissions and rely on passive cooling strategies. Prefabricated timber construction and recycled bricks further reinforce the project’s commitment to ecological sustainability.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this success—we couldn’t have done it without you!
